OCtech Named One of the “Best for Vets 2013” by Military Times

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College has been named as one of the “Best for Vets” among career and technical colleges this year by Military Times.

Public community and technical institutions accounted for six of the top ten spots in the list. Military Times considered some 140 career and technical colleges in the review. These colleges were among those self-identifying as career and technical schools while participating in a Military Times annual survey.

Positive marks were received for having a per-credit-hour rate for all programs that was at or below the federal $250 per credit hour tuition assistance limit in the 2011-12 school year; having academic programs that are at or below the Post-9/11 GI Bill’s nationwide cap on tuition and fees for the 2012-13 school year; and having staff devoted to veterans issues.

“We are very pleased to be listed as one of the top Colleges for Veterans by Military Times,” said Bobbie Felder, vice president of Student Affairs. “It is an honor and privilege for the faculty and staff at OCtech to serve the men and women who sacrificed so much to serve our country. We embrace the opportunity to provide educational opportunities to those who have given so much for our freedom.”

In honor of Veteran’s Day, OCtech held a special Veteran’s Information Session. Veterans were able to have their credentials reviewed by counselors and talk to Admissions Counselors, Financial Aid Counselors and a VA Official about furthering their education and making career changes. Also, in conjunction with SC Works, a specially trained counselor will be on hand every Wednesday from 11:30am-12:30pm in the Academic Success and Career Center (ASCC) to help Veterans with education and employment goals.
