U.S. Department of Education officials visited Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Tuesday to film a production showcasing how technical colleges are promoting careers in engineering and industrial technology.

OCtech Receives National Science Foundation Grant
Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College has been awarded an $890,000 grant by the National Science Foundation. Grant proceeds will be used to strengthen the College’s programs in the automated manufacturing and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) areas. Funding will be received over a three year period.

Middle School Children and Their Robots Get Climate Savvy
With "Climate Connections" Challenge

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College will host a FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League regional competition on Friday, January 30 in OCtech’s Cyber Café. Fourteen teams from across South Carolina will compete in the event. A team of middle school students from Orangeburg Prep will be among those competing. Three teams from Carver-Edisto Middle School will compete in a similar Lego event at Trident Technical College on January 31.

Students See "Energy Resources - Meeting the Global Demand"
With Science and Technology

Students from across SC have been tasked with the challenge and excitement of designing and building an original robot in the FIRST LEGO League program. Friday, February 1, at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, eight weeks of research and design will culminate in the FIRST LEGO League Power Puzzle Challenge- "Energy Resources-Meeting the Global Demand," where teams of students and mentors will demonstrate their problem-solving skills, creative thinking, teamwork, competitive play, sportsmanship and sense of community.
