Who is my advisor at OCtech?
Your advisor will be a faculty member or instructor who teaches classes associated with your program of study. The Advisor Contact List contains the name of and contact information for each program's administrative assistant. Please call or email the administrative assistant for your program who will immediately assign you an advisor.
Can I walk in to see an advisor?
Generally, advising is by appointment only. Please check with your assigned advisor for their individual policy.
How can I make an appointment to see an advisor?
The administrative assistant will give you the name of and contact information for your advisor. It is your responsibility to call or email your advisor to schedule an advising appointment.
I don't want to wait for an appointment with my advisor. Can I schedule an appointment with any academic advisor so I can be seen sooner?
Generally, no. One objective of advising is that the student build a relationship with his/her assigned academic advisor. However, there are circumstances that may require you to meet with another advisor within your program.
How do I prepare for an appointment with my Academic Advisor?
Print and review your program evaulation, and plan a tentative schedule for the upcoming semester. Please review the Student Success Tutorials for instructions on printing a program evaulation and searching for classes.
How can I contact an advisor if I cannot/do not want to come to campus?
Most advisors will accept telephone calls or emails. Please check with your assigned advisor to determine their individual preference.
Do I need to see my Advisor before I register for classes?
Yes. All students must consult with their program advisor before they register for classes. Advisors must put classes in an academic plan on your Campus Cruiser so you can register for them. Make time for this meeting so you can discuss goals, progression of your degree, and any issues that you have been having so you can plan your schedule accordingly for the upcoming semsters. Meet with your advisor early to register on time and avoid late fees.
My advisor added classes to my academic plan. How do I register for these classes?
It is your responsibility to register for classes online via your Campus Cruiser account. Please follow the instructions for online registration in the Student Success Tutorials.
How do I drop/withdraw from a class?
Before classes start you can make changes to your schedule via your Campus Cruiser account. After classes start you must see Records (Building S- Student Services) to make any changes to your class schedule. Similarly, to withdraw from a class you must see Records.
Can I repeat a course?
Yes, you can repeat a course. It is imperative that you meet with a Financial Aid Counselor to determine whether financial aid will cover the repeat attempt.
