Patient Care Technician 

photo of two male practical nursing studentsPatient CareTechnicians are multi-skilled healthcare providers, with training in basic patient care, blood collection, and electrocardiography. Under the supervision of nursing and medical staff, patient care technicians are employable in a variety of healthcare settings. Students will gain the knowledge and skills to function as beginning-level staff in hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, laboratories, and physicians’ offices.

Students can earn up to four certificates with this program: Certified Nursing Assistant, Phlebotomy, Electrocardiography/Cardiac Monitoring as well as Patient Care. Students can utilize their semesters preparing for more advanced medical training at OCtech, while earning specialized training that will get them immediate employment.

Additionally, the Patient Care Technician certificate prepares students to enter other programs at OCtech, as well as other health career programs.

Career: 

Assist doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals in providing direct patient care in a variety of healthcare environments. Duties may include: basic patient care including bathing, feeding, toileting and ambulating patients, obtaining EKG readings and performing phlebotomy procedures.
