Scholarships

LIFE Scholarships

LIFE Scholarship recipients must be South Carolina residents who graduated from a S.C. high school, have a 3.0 high school GPA and enroll in at least 12 credit hours in non-developmental courses. Students are eligible for up to 4 semesters of LIFE Scholarship at OCtech for an associate degree and 2 semesters for a certificate or diploma. Semesters of eligibility begin with the first term of college enrollment, whether or not the student was LIFE Scholarship-eligible as a high school graduate. To continue eligibility as a LIFE Scholarship recipient, students must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative college GPA and earn at least 30 credit hours per academic year. 

IMPORTANT: Students may use their LIFE Scholarship award at a technical college, but they will not be eligible for lottery-funded tuition assistance.

Outside Scholarships 

OCtech is notified of scholarships offered by outside entities and agencies throughout the year. Notification of eligibility requirements, applications and deadlines are posted on D2L.

Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Foundation Scholarships 

Specific guidelines for OCtech Foundation Scholarships are available in the Financial Aid Office. These scholarships are awarded according to funding available for the current year. All scholarships are subject to prior funding before awards are made.

  • Belk Endowed Scholarship: Awarded in the fall semester for one academic year. Preference is given to Business students. Students must maintain a cumulative 2.75 GPA or higher to keep the scholarship.
  • Book Scholarships: Awarded in the fall, spring and summer terms. The scholarship is good for one semester only, and any balance will not be carried over to the next semester. The award can be used for required books and required supplies. Students must have a 3.0 GPA or higher.
  • BP Electronic Instrumentation Technology Scholarship: This scholarship is available to assist individuals majoring in Electrical Engineering Technology and specializing in Electronic Instrumentation. The award can be used for tuition, books and/or required supplies. Preference is given to students from Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties. Students must have a cumulative 2.5 GPA or higher to be considered.
  • A.L. “Red” Brewington Endowed Scholarship: Awarded in the fall semester for one academic year. Preference is given to nursing students who have a C+ to B grade average.
  • Dr. Rocco D. Cassone Endowed Scholarship: Awarded in the fall semester for one academic year. Preference is given to Associate Degree Nursing students.
  • Ellen Chaplin Endowed Scholarship: Awarded in the fall semester for one academic year. Preference is given to Orangeburg County students.
  • Steve Dalton Memorial Scholarship: Awarded in the fall semester for one academic year. Preference is given to Industrial Technology students. The scholarship can be used for tuition, books and/or required supplies.
  • Emerson Process Management Scholarship: This scholarship is for needy, worthy individuals to further their education and training for no longer than one year. Preference is given to Industrial Technology students. The scholarship can be used for tuition, books and/or required supplies.
  • Joseph K. Fairey II Endowed Scholarship: Awarded in the fall semester for one academic year. Preference is given to needy, worthy second-year students enrolled in the Automotive Technology program and residing in Orangeburg or Calhoun counties. The scholarship can be used for tuition, books and/or required supplies.
  • Federal-Mogul Friction Products Endowed Scholarship: Awarded in the fall semester for one academic year. Preference is given to Electronics Instrumentation Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology and Industrial Electronics Technology students.
  • Student and Support Services Finish Line Scholarship: Awarded in the fall, spring and summer terms. Eligible applicants are OCtech students who have completed 50 percent or more of the credit hours toward their degrees and have earned a cumulative 2.75 GPA or higher.
  • Robert Wayne Gibson Memorial Scholarship: Awarded in the fall semester. Eligible applicants are high school seniors who are active members of any Bamberg County fire department, children of Bamberg County firefighters, or Bamberg County firefighters or their spouses who plan to further their education full-time at OCtech. The scholarship can be used for tuition, books and/or required supplies.
  • Harold Green Endowed Scholarship: Awarded in the fall semester for one academic year. Preference is given to Engineering Graphics Technology, Automotive Technology, Machine Tool Technology, Industrial Electronics Technology, Electronics Engineering Technology and Electronic Instrumentation Technology students.
  • Kristy Hutto EMT Scholarship: Awarded to first-time students enrolled in the EMT program and given at the conclusion of the EMT classes to the top three students in each class. The scholarship can be used to pay fees for the EMT National Registry exam and required background check.
  • Dean B. Livingston Endowed Scholarship: Awarded in the fall semester for one academic year. Preference is given to South Carolina students.
  • Lowe’s Scholarship: This scholarship is for tuition only. Eligible applicants must be at least 18 years old, currently enrolled in a 6- to 12-hour program of study at a targeted community college, and majoring in Business, Industrial Technology or Agriculture. Students must have completed at least one semester with a 2.0 GPA or higher. Current Lowe’s employees who are enrolled at OCtech are eligible for the scholarship. Applicants who are currently employed with another major retailer are not eligible.
  • Joseph J. Miller Scholarship: Up to three scholarships are available to students who reside in Elloree or communities within a 12-mile radius of Elloree, including Santee, Cameron and Vance. The scholarships can be used for tuition, fees, books and/or required supplies.
  • OCtech Employee Scholarship: Awarded in the fall semester for one academic year.
  • Sudhir and Hema Patel Hospitality Scholarship: Awarded for one academic year. Special consideration is given to candidates with a demonstrated financial need, with preference given to Business students. The scholarship can be used for tuition, books and/or supplies.
  • D.L. Scurry Scholarship: Awarded to outstanding students who maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher and have a demonstrated financial need.
  • South Carolina Bank & Trust Scholarship: Awarded in the fall semester for one academic year. Preference is given to students from low- to moderate-income families in Orangeburg, Calhoun and Bamberg counties.
  • Super Sod – Willie Aiken Scholarship: Awarded for one academic year to needy, worthy individuals. Preference is given to minority candidates, with the first option to a child of a Super Sod employee. The scholarship can be used for tuition and/or required books.
  • Tri-County Electric Scholarship: Awarded to a full-time student pursuing a degree or diploma. Applicants or their parents/guardians must be a member of the TriCounty Electric Cooperative, Inc. Special consideration is given to candidates with a demonstrated financial need.
  • John O. Wesner, Jr. Endowed Scholarship: Awarded in the fall semester for one academic year. Preference is given to needy, worthy Business students. The scholarship can be used for tuition and/or books.
  • Anna Jennie Wheeler Scholarship: Awarded in the spring semester for the summer semester. The scholarship is for Licensed Practical Nursing students. Eligible students must have a 3.25 GPA or higher. The scholarship can be used for books, tuition and/or required supplies.
