XY Charts

An XY chart is used to plot a set of values as coordinates of the X and Y axes.  This is the only type of chart that has values on both the X and Y axes.  To use an XY chart, your values should be in adjacent columns or rows.  Excel will plot each value along both the X axis and the Y axis.  Many times, lines cannot be drawn from data point to data point in this type of chart because the data is so scattered around that the lines do no make sense.  In the charts you'll be creating in this tutorial, however, the data will steadily increase, so lines can be drawn from point to point.

The XY charts created in this tutorial are called Cost-Volume-Profit charts because they are used to show the break-even point.  The break-even point is the point where your costs and revenue are equal; you are not losing money, but are not yet making a profit.
