OCtech to Award $180,000 in Workforce Pathways Scholarships

Nearly $180,000 is available to Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College students through the Workforce Pathways Scholarship.

Part of $5 million in funds the general assembly set aside for the S.C. Technical College System, the Workforce Pathways Scholarship pays for course fees and books for approved training in credit and non-credit continuing education programs in advanced manufacturing, healthcare, information technology and other STEM areas.

“The Workforce Pathways Scholarship was first available to our students earlier this year, and we’re so glad to have it again,” said Donna Elmore, vice president for academic affairs. “We need a well-qualified workforce to meet the growing needs of our region, and this scholarship will help meet those needs. This is the perfect opportunity for our citizens to invest in their future.”

With the scholarship, students can prepare for careers in such fields as mechatronics, electronics engineering technology, information technology, machine tool technology, as emergency medical technicians or patient care technicians, and more. Funds are available for courses that begin Aug. 15 and will be available until all of the money is disbursed.

The Workforce Pathways Scholarship is available to students in OCtech’s traditional day programs and its new Evening College for the Working Adult. Evening College offers hybrid courses that incorporate online components with face-to-face class time and open laboratories in select advanced manufacturing, computer, and nursing and health science programs. Certificate, diploma and degree options are available. Visit www.octech.edu/academics/evening-college to learn more.
