About the Library

 

The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Library provides the latest in information technology along with a comprehensive collection of books, audio books, journals, computer assisted instruction and audiovisuals available for students, faculty and community members.   Databases and an electronic book collection, available online at all times, offer searchers the latest in information from reputable sources.  An online test bank provides the opportunity to practice for required exams such as SAT, ACT, ASVAB, GED, U.S.Citizenship and much much more.  The Library’s online catalog, Unicorn, provides the means to search the library collection on campus and via the College website.  Trained staff is available to assist during hours of operation.

The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Library operates two facilities.  The Library is located in the Gressette Learning Resource Center (Building B) on the second floor.   The Health Sciences Media Center is located in the Health Sciences Building (Building K) in Room 104.

The mission of the Library is to support the purposes and programs of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College and to meet the informational needs of students, faculty, staff and community members. Patrons with special needs are served in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

REGULATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS FOR CONDUCT

The mission of the OCtech Library and Health Sciences Media Center is to support the purposes and programs of Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, as detailed in the College mission statement, with particular emphasis in the areas of meeting the community’s need for a literate and technically-competent workforce and of providing students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes in areas of oral and written communication, problem-solving, use of cutting-edge technology, and development of interpersonal skills for workplace competencies or for transfer to other institutions of higher learning.

The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Area Commission has adopted the following policy so that the Library and Health Sciences Media Center may provide an atmosphere conducive to appropriate use of services and facilities. Use of the Library and Health Sciences Media Center is intended to be for reading, studying, writing and listening to written or electronically transmitted materials. Other use is not permitted. Library and Health Sciences Media Center patrons are required to comply with these Regulations and Expectations.

The following actions are prohibited on Library property:

Failure to comply with the Library’s established regulations and expectations may result in exclusion from the Library for the day, or permanently, and/or in arrest. Daily expulsion is at the determination of the Director of Library Services and the Dean of Learning Resources. Permanent expulsion will be determined by the Director of Library Services, the Dean of Learning Resources and the Vice-President of Student Affairs.

Theft of Library materials is a federal offense and may result in permanent exclusion from the Library and arrest. The Director of Campus Safety will be consulted in matters of this magnitude.

Communication of threats, physical violence or sexual offenses will result in permanent exclusion.
