Narrative:
Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College (OCtech) has a clear policy regarding student, faculty, staff ownership of materials, compensation, copyright issues, and the use of revenue derived from the creation and production of all intellectual property. The Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Policy 3.010: Intellectual Property Rights defines intellectual property as any product of intellectual activity that is unique, novel, unobvious and/or original, or otherwise subject to copyright or patent protections pursuant to Title 17 or 35 of the US Code of Laws. The policy addresses the rights of the College, College employees, and students.
Criteria for determining ownership of intellectual property are delineated. In addition, the policy provides for negotiation of alternative or joint ownership agreements in those cases where such agreements are appropriate. The policy and Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College Procedure 3.010.01: Intellectual Property Rights is sufficiently detailed to cover most situations encountered in the technical college environment. The policy does leave latitude for variation to accommodate unusual circumstances.
