Narrative:
Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College (OCtech) employs sound and acceptable practices for determining the amount and level of credit awarded for courses, regardless of format or mode of delivery, at the degree, diploma, and certificate levels of curriculum courses and for continuing education courses.
CURRICULUM COURSEWORK:
OCtech adheres to the requirements established for the amount and level of credit to be awarded for courses by the South Carolina State Board for Technical and Comprehensive Education (SBTCE) as published in the Catalog of Approved Courses and administered by the SBTCE. An approval process exists through the SBTCE for new courses to be added to the Catalog of Approved Courses. The necessary form and approval process is located on the SBTCE Intranet. The OCtech Curriculum Committee reviews all proposals for new and revised curriculum courses of the College to ensure compliance with SBTCE requirements, to monitor academic quality and relevance, and assure adherence to other College academic requirements. OCtech uses the SBTCE Guidelines for Credit Ratio in determining the credit ratio for lab/clinical, practicum/internship, supervised work experience, and cooperative work experience.
Consistent practices are followed at OCtech regardless of traditional, online, or distance delivery methodology. Course Competency requirements are consistent regardless of delivery methodology. Online delivery of content is tailored by instructor preference in the same manner as traditional courses. Instructors personalize standard course content, establish timelines for course assignments and tests, create online assessments, or require testing in the Tourville Learning Lab.
