Emergency Medical Technician Certificate

About the Certificate

Emergency medical technicians are certified healthcare providers who are trained to respond to, treat and transport individuals in emergency situations. With the assistance of dispatchers, advanced EMTs and paramedics, EMTs are integral members of the emergency response team. Students learn the skills necessary to care for critically ill and injured patients – including airway management, patient assessment and trauma care – through classroom lectures, hands-on skills practice and field training with actual transport agencies. The demand for emergency medical personnel is increasing, especially in Orangeburg and Calhoun counties.

Graduates of this program are eligible to take the state and national certification examinations in order to be designated as an EMT-Basic.

"You're not going to get rich being an EMT, but you get rewarded otherwise. It's something that you've got to want to do. If you don't wholeheartedly want to do it, you're not going to be able to do it."

— Denise Metts, EMT Class of 2019
