NEW DATES: Digital Literacy Workshop for Seniors is July 28-30

In an increasingly digital world, staying connected with family and navigating the internet safely can feel daunting. To bridge this gap, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College is stepping up to help local seniors master their devices.

The college’s Computer Technology department is hosting a free, three-day Digital Literacy Workshop for Seniors this month. The hands-on training program is designed to empower older adults to use their computers, smartphones and tablets with confidence.

The workshop will be entirely student-led, giving OCtech Computer Technology students a chance to give back to the community while providing patient, one-on-one guidance to attendees.

The curriculum tackles the most common challenges seniors face when using modern tech, with a heavy emphasis on cybersecurity. Highlights include:

  • Device basics: Navigating smartphones, computers, and setting up or managing email accounts.
  • Staying connected: Learning how to make video calls to family, send text messages and use popular apps.
  • Online safety: Practical tips on password protection and how to identify and avoid common phone scams, phishing emails and online fraud.
  • Digital organization: How to transfer photos, sync digital calendars and organize files.

Each session will feature a dedicated Q&A time, allowing participants to practice what they learn at their own pace with the student team.

The workshop is completely free to the public, but space is limited and pre-registration is required.

  • Dates: Tuesday, July 28-Thursday, July 30, 2026
  • Time: 9am-12pm daily
  • Location: Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, Building E, Room 304

Local seniors or their family members can reserve a spot by calling 803.535.1391 or by registering online.
