SCTCS President Williamson to Speak at OCtech Graduation May 12

Photo of 2016 graduation speaker Dr. James "Jimmie" WilliamsonOrangeburg-Calhoun Technical College will hold its spring graduation at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12, in the Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center on the campus of South Carolina State University.

This year’s speaker will be Dr. James “Jimmie” Williamson, president of the South Carolina Technical College System. Prior to becoming System president in March 2014, Williamson served as chief human capital officer for Agape Senior and president of Northeastern Technical College and Williamsburg Technical College. Additionally, he has served as a faculty member or administrator at four community colleges and three universities in South Carolina.

Williamson is co-author of “Roadways to Success,” a textbook for under-prepared college students, and has received the South Carolina Governor’s Award for Two-Year College Educational Champion of the Year. He was recently named the S.C. Association of Regional Councils of Government’s State Employee of the Year for his exceptional support and commitment to education and workforce in South Carolina.

Hundreds of students will receive an associate’s degree, diploma and/or certificate in advanced manufacturing, nursing and health science, computer technology, business, education, criminal justice and other OCtech programs of study at the May 12 ceremony.
