OCtech’s Transfer Option Changed Her Future

There’s great value in starting a bachelor’s degree at OCtech.

Haley Craven, a kindergarten teacher at Whittaker Elementary School, graduated from Orangeburg Preparatory Schools in 2013 and started OCtech that fall. She completed her Associate of Arts with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education in 2016 and earned a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Claflin University in 2018.

“I have said since I was a young girl that I wanted to be a teacher, and I never said anything different,” Haley said. “I was kind of nervous when I first started OCtech, but Mr. Xennie Weeks made the transition very easy for me. He was my advisor, so he was very helpful in getting me registered for all of my courses and making me feel comfortable in class.”

When she arrived on Claflin’s campus, Haley found OCtech had already given her all of the tools she needed to be successful – at a fraction of the cost.

“It sounds so cliché, but OCtech builds your foundation. When I got to Claflin, there wasn’t one thing that I heard in class that I hadn’t heard before at OCtech. It just really prepares you for the next step. This place will get you where you want to be.”
